If you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy, it is normal to be concerned about the cost of services such as prenatal care, childbirth, and post-partum care. Having healthcare coverage is one of the most important issues when pregnant.

The good news is that coverage is available through HUSKY Health Connecticut, and you can apply during pregnancy. At Birthright, we can help you navigate the process. The sooner you get started, the better chance you’ll have for a safe and healthy pregnancy.

No Insurance Necessary to Visit Birthright

At Birthright, all of our services are free and confidential. You do not need insurance to get started with us. If you want to apply for HUSKY (Medicaid), start with free medical-grade pregnancy testing.

If your pregnancy test is positive, we’ll provide a verification form for HUSKY. We can even walk you through the sign-up process.

Who Qualifies for HUSKY

HUSKY A, also known as Medicaid, is Connecticut’s public health coverage program for children up to age 19, parents, caretaker relatives, and pregnant individuals within certain income guidelines.

The coverage includes:

Medical coverage
Preventative care
Emergency services
Dental care
Vision coverage
Prescription drugs

A pregnant woman is eligible if her household income is at or below 263% of the FPL (the Federal Poverty Level). The 2026 annual income guideline for a pregnant woman and her unborn child (counted as a family member) is $56,916 annually. Additional family members would increase the annual income guideline.

In addition to coverage for prenatal care and childbirth, HUSKY A offers postpartum healthcare coverage for 12 months after giving birth.
