Are you considering an adoption option as you navigate your pregnancy? You are not alone, and we understand your pregnancy situation is unique. An open adoption allows you to communicate freely, set up visits, and build a relationship with the adoptive family and your child.
Keep reading to learn more about the details of open adoption and if it’s right for you.
Is Open Adoption for You?
Unlike other adoption plans, where all or some communication is done through a third party, open adoption allows the most open communication.
Open adoption allows the birth mother and the adoptive family open access to one another. You can share and exchange identifying information, including full names, addresses, phone numbers, etc.
Though no type of adoption plan is easy, this type of adoption allows you the most flexibility and access to your child and your relationship with the adoptive family of your choosing.
Your Other Adoption Options
You have more than one adoption plan to choose from. You have three adoption plans: open, closed, and semi-open adoption. In addition to open adoption, here are the following adoption plans to choose from:
- Semi-open adoption: The woman has contact with the adoptive family, but all communication is carried out via a third party, like an adoption agency or attorney.
- Closed adoption: The most private plan, a closed adoption ensures that all identifying records are sealed. The woman remains anonymous, with no contact between her and the adoptive family.
